This evening I was in the gym when my Front Office Manager called me to inform that there has been a Tsunami watch alert by authorities following an earthquake in Indonesia.
I quickly ran to the office in my jogging outfit to attend an emergency meeting – all looked very nervous! I was still breathing deep, tired (from jogging) and shocked from the news. So, we had a quick meeting with all management staff to discuss how we should deal with this. The news is on haveeru.com (from my management team I would only be abele to read that), on CNN, BBC and many other news channels. The word quickly spread around the resort, guests started checking on internet. Now that the news is out there and what are we going to do?
This is what we decided to do…..
A short and sweet letter was sent to all guest rooms advising them of the situation and reassuring their safety. This was aimed to let them know that we are aware of the situation and monitoring by the minute (by now the alert has been lifted by The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre).
In addition, I have sent a quick email to all my Tour Operators informing that all is good in our little patch of paradise. I also called up the agents, whose guests are in house currently, just to let them know we are aware and that we are taking care of our guests. This is just what we did – perhaps something all Marketing Managers could do to reassure our partners that we are still fine and open for more business.. J
