So I said…

Nabeel.1-150x150Here is a piece I posted back in January. Now we are in December and getting ready to celebrate a fresh New Year.

I advise you to spend some time to read this and re-think before you present that plan of action to your Boss!

2009 will be tough (Original Post)

Obama says 2009 is going to be tough and a year not to raise expectations. This means a lot, not only for Americans but for the whole world.

This does not, however mean that we have to chicken out and stop doing what we are supposed to do. If you see occupancy forecasts not promising, go out there and look for customers. Knock the doors of the Tour Operators, open your website availability, upload dynamic packages and show customers the real value in your product.

Don’t shrink your marketing budget or cancel that trip to ITB. Your “Maldivian Night at ITB” was a success once. So why do you have to cancel it this year? Have it, and have it with a bang! That’s the way it should be. Look at that forecast report from last year and book your flight to the place where numbers were high. You can’t just sit and expect the same numbers if you are not doing the same thing/s you did last year. If you want some juice reach out and squeeze it – I bet you will get some.

Earlier on I have said Success in 2009 means Proactive Selling. Well, here is one more thing. Success in 2009 means more marketing – not the other way around. The biggest mistake we do in business is when the going gets tough we stop doing what we are supposed to do. We start thinking of costs, money or budgets. But on the way we tend to forget something very important – Profit!

To close with, here is an extract from a book I read – “Cost Control Will Keep You Whole, but for Profits to Soar, It’s Big Sales You Must Score”.

    Well said!
it ain’t particularly the same in every corner of the world but exceptionally in Asia the mindset and the nature of business or rather the operational bogus is what stops them from spending any last quids on Marketing or Sales. Which i strongly agree with you; if you need to generate the revenue then you better be spending.. :)

Morpheus “Believe me when I say we have a difficult time ahead of us. But if we are to be prepared for it, we must first shed our fear of it. I stand here, before you now, truthfully unafraid. Why? Because I believe something you do not? No, I stand here without fear because I remember. I remember that I am here not because of the path that lies before me but because of the path that lies behind me. I remember that for 100 years we have fought these machines. I remember that for 100 years they have sent their armies to destroy us, and after a century of war I remember that which matters most… We are still here! Today, let us send a message to that army. TOnight, let us shake this cave. Tonight, let us tremble these halls of earth, steel, and stone, let us be heard from red core to black sky. Tonight, let us make them remember, THIS IS ZION AND WE ARE NOT AFRAID!”
