The couple sitting next to me had a fantastic seven days in the Maldives and were heading to Colombo from there they will take a ride to Galle for another amazing six days. Trevor and Jennine were an ultra excited couple from UK with different personal interests. Jennine is curious about Budist rituals while Trevor likes watersports and a big fan of cricket. They seemed very excited to experience their interests in Sri Lanka. While in Maldives they enjoyed every bit, they said. “I like scuba diving and you know I think my wife spent almost everyday in the Spa” tells the man. “And I must add the people are so friendly and the food is real good”, the lady said as she smiled looking at her body. They are going to stay in a modern hotel suggested by their travel agent who gave them a seriouly good offer. “They had great offers for tourists wanting to stay first or last part of a 8 – 14 days holiday combining Maldives and Sri Lanka” explained Jennine. We had almost talked for 47 minutes minutes when the flight touched down in Colombo airport.
As I was heading to my hotel I thought about the possiblities of joint tourism promotion with this big island next to our many islands. I thought if it was a good idea to take a more direct approach and market these two unique islands together. Is it worth thinking…?
As I reached the Hotel I digged to my archives to find out this piece I have posted in 2007 : Duel Tourism promotion – Maldives and Sri Lanka.
hi nabeel, is this is real storey? i think it will be dangourous promoting maldives like this with Sri Lanka. they are much cheaper and have many kinds of hotels. i think everybody will go to sri lanka during high season because it is cheap than Maldives.
They say Sri Lankan Tourism is gonna improve a lot …
We sure dont wanna be left out on that …
kalo nabeel, boa goveetha. lanka tourism is not going to help Maldives, no need to do joint pronmotion. we can spend the money to promote Maldives tourism. now also MTPB is not doing anything. they are sitting there and traveling to fairs. i think Majlis will have to pass a bill to promote maldives tourism. we dont even have tourism b=minister. we have to change this.
dont think its a good idea nabeel,
