Here I am, back to the island after spending one week in Moscow. Don’t worry, I did not stalk nor did I get stalked by a tall, blond assassin – and I wasn’t looking for a cryptographic device either. I was in Moscow to attend Moscow International Travel and Tourism 2008.
This year, the Moscow International Travel & Tourism exhibition celebrated its 15th anniversary as the largest travel industry event in Russia. According to their official website “an independent audit of MITT 2007 revealed that over 81 880 visitors attended the event – 50 130 were trade professionals – and a record number of visitors registered prior to the show”.
It was a quite busy show this year as well, with lots of visitors attending to get information and collect souvenirs. The Maldives Tourism Promotion Board together with industry professional participated in this years show. There were around 12 individual travel companies and three resort representatives including myself.
The Maldives had a decent stand in the Asian hall and all participants were around the stand meeting, talking to people and distributing brochures. I took sometime to visit the offices of all our agents in Moscow, to thank them for their great support and exchange some information about the business. It was a good exercise and all the agents loved a bit of personal attention.
If you are visiting Russia on a trade visit make sure your collateral are in Russian language and that you have a good translator available.
